+++++ What Thomas Kinkade said about this work +++++ "Some years ago, I packed my paints and took a two week sketching tour through the far reaches of the Alaskan wilderness. It was often so cold that the water colors I was using simply froze; I finally solved that problem by mixing the colors in a rubbing alcohol instead of water. I'm grateful for that inspiration; it allowed me to create some canvases that, upon my return, expressed the intense isolation and fragile beauty of that remote, frozen region. This work depicts the famous Yukon town of Dawson during the height of the northern gold rush, around 1898. The era I depicted in Dawson must have been brutal indeed. Yet, with the hardships of survival, comes the exuberance of camaraderie. I hope I've captured both aspects in this work, one of the most detailed of my early career." ~~Thomas Kinkade

Dawson In 1984, Thom traveled to Alaska where he met a bush pilot, Hoppy Harrower. Thom decided that he wanted to paint a suite in the Yukon, so he told the pilot he would give him the original of the first work he painted, worth $4,000.00, if he would fly him around the area for 3 weeks. The painting became known as "Dawson". It was Thomas' first published painting in 1984. Dawson is historic and highly collectable because it is the very FIRST painting Thomas Kinkade published in lithograph form for sale.
